Glycel

“Unique NS herbicide, with quality & economy”

Product Category:  Herbicide
Active ingredient:  Glyphosate
Chemical group: Organophosphorus
Formulation: Available in SL Formulation (soluble Liquid Concentrate) with 48% w/v concentration

Mode of Action:

  • Glycel is a broad spectrum, non-selective systemic herbicide.
  • Glycel works by being absorbed into the plant mainly through its leaves but also through soft stalk tissue. It is then transported throughout the plant where it acts on various enzyme systems inhibiting amino acid metabolism in what is known as the shikimic acid pathway. This pathway exists in higher plants and microorganisms but not in animals.
  • Plants treated with Glycel slowly die over a period of days or weeks, and because the chemical is transported throughout the plant, no part survives.

Key Properties / USPs:

  • Non- selective herbicide
  • Environment safety. Glycel will not adversely affect soil microorganisms; in fact they actually feed on it to break it down! It does not adversely affect the natural breakdown of plant matter in the soil.
  • Glycel can be tank mixed with residual herbicides to give long-term weed control under certain situations.
  • Unlike mechanical tillage, Glycel does not cause soil disturbance, root pruning or trunk bruising. Shallow feeder roots are left intact and the soil structure is not adversely affected. Tillage implements often damage irrigation lines, cause erosion and surface sealing which reduces water penetration and causes excess water run-off, which potentially reduces harvest size, quality and value. Water run-off may make the use of harvesting equipment difficult.
  • Unlike other herbicides, when Glycel enters the plant, it translocate's (i.e. moves through the sap stream) throughout the plant, killing it roots and all. So, there’s no risk of re-growth of the sprayed weeds.

Target Crops: All Crops, Orchards, water channels, non-crop areas etc.

Target Pests:  All types of weeds (BLW, Grasses, Sedges)

Recommendations:

Crops Pests Dose

All crops

Seasonal Weeds 600 ml / A
Annual Weeds 1100 ml / A
Perennial Weeds 1900 ml / A

Method of Application:

  • Spray product as foliar spray when weeds are of 6 ~ 8 inch;
  • Use good quality sprayer & Foam nozzles and ensure thorough coverage of the crop

Water Quality / PH Adjuster:

Glycel products are formulated to be mixed with water to facilitate application. Often, that water (whether it comes from a well or rural water association) contains large amounts of dissolved salts. Hardness is a measure of how much salt water contains. The harder the water, the higher the salt concentration. These dissolved salts in hard water may reduce Glycel’s effectiveness, particularly calcium and magnesium salts. These salts have a positive charge and may associate with the negatively charged Glycel molecule, displacing the isopropylamine or other salt used in the formulated product. Plants absorb less Glycel bound with calcium or magnesium salts than the formulated salt of Glycel, thus reducing Glycel activity. Although specific recommendations vary, most Glycel labels recommend adding ammonium sulfate. The role of ammonium sulfate is considerably different than the function of nonionic surfactants. Surfactants are active primarily on the leaf surface and improve herbicide absorption into plants. Ammonium sulfate, on the other hand, is active primarily in the spray tank where it prevents the antagonistic salts from interacting with Glycel. Ammonium sulfate should always be added to the tank prior to Glycel to prevent the formation of inactive complexes between Glycel and antagonistic cations.

Special Recommendation:

  • Always use clean water for preparing spray solution.
  • Use zero drift Nozzle/ Spray shield when spraying in the field.
  • Mixing with other herbicides may reduce the activity of Glycel.
  • Do not use Metal sprayers, always use Plastic Sprayers.
