Projects Division has been awarded a turnkey project for provision of alternate energy source (solar pumps) to fish farmers community on matching grant basis by Fisheries Department, Government of Punjab.
The scope of work includes design, supply, civil work, installation, testing & commissioning, O&M of 1.2 MW Solar Panel on approximate100 sites with pumps along with AC Drives. The duration of the project is two years.
As there is acute shortage of energy in the country and its cost is continuously escalating every year, the fish farming has become least cost effective, especially in Punjab, as a result the fish farmers are losing their interest in the aquaculture business. To keep the aquaculture business attractive and cost effective it was necessary to adopt a cheaper and reliable energy source. Solar Power Systems are one of the best alternate energy source for pumping water which can be used for sustainable water supply to the fish farms.
The use of solar energy will make the fish production system more efficient by minimizing the risk of fish mortality especially during summer. The use of alternate energy and the financial assistance as an incentive from the Punjab government will not only increase the fish production, but will also improve the socio-economic condition of the small-scale fish farmers.
