Agriculture renovations and reforms direly needed (Courtesy The News International)
A 15-day training workshop on Testing Indigenous Hydroponic Green Houses for Vegetable Growing’ and five-day 1st National Training on Commercial Ostrich Farming ended at Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR), here on Friday. At the concluding sessions PMAS-AAUR Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Rai Niaz Ahmad was the chief guest while on the occasion, Director General, Korean International Cooperating Agency (KOICA), Chung Jong Hykok, deans, directors, faculty members and participants were also present. Prof. Dr. Rai Niaz Ahmed, while addressing said that Korea; the defeated nation, started development in late 70's from Mud Houses turned it as grooming country on the globe for agriculture and live stock technology. He said there is the dire need of agriculture renovations and reforms in Pakistan. He emphasised to promote the interaction among the communities and varsity to resolve the issues and problems and focus on research that can be commercialized and has direct and positive impact on the society. While talking about Ostrich farming Vice Chancellor highlighted the benefits of ostrich farming. He said that PMAS-AAUR will help the farmers in setting up ostrich farm and will provide complete training, technical assistance, consultancy, medication to ensure safe and risk free investment in Ostrich Farming in future as well. He thanked the Director General, KOICA and also hoped for friendly relations. He said diverse relationships among both countries need to be intended and valued in respectful manner. 125 farmers from different regions of the Punjab have been trained under the project title “Testing Indigenous Hydroponic Green Houses for Vegetable growing at various location in Punjab" to test this emerging technology in their respective areas and make experiments with their native farmers. In Ostrich Farming training more than forty farmers participated and got training on disease diagnosis, vaccination, laboratory, slaughtering and Nutrition (feed) for ostrich. PMAS-AAUR Vice Chancellor and Director General, KOICA also distributed certificates among the participants of the trainings.
