While continuing to focus on projects of national and regional development under ODA, we shall strengthen our position in the private sector by introducing new principals, products and services to improve profitability.

Projects and Machinery (P&M) is the most strategic business division of the Jaffer Group. It has made immense contribution to the development of infrastructure in the country and has been instrumental in conceiving projects of national importance, identifying Principals who are keen to work on these projects, lining up finance facilities either through donor agencies as grants or medium/long term credits, selecting appropriate products, services and right solutions; and finally delivering and implementing these projects to the total satisfaction of the customers, both government agencies and industrial concerns.

P&M has developed complete understanding of the stringent industrial requirements of its customers and endeavors to deliver products that are best of the breed, known for their robust design, quality and reliability. Essential and fast moving spare parts are sufficiently stocked in our inventory to meet ongoing customer requirements for after sales support

P&M represents organizations of international repute from North America, Europe, Japan and other Asian countries that are market leaders in their areas of expertise and who take keen interest in partnering with us to develop our sales and service teams. Regular local and foreign training programs are conducted to upgrade the expertise of our sales and technical staff. Training workshops are also conducted for customers to enhance their technical knowledge for effective usage of the products.

Major global trading houses also rely on P&M to promote their businesses in Pakistan by introducing fresh ideas for promoting projects and products.

The Division carries out projects of diverse dimensions and nature, in areas such as:

Mechanized Construction and Farming

JBL is the official sole distributor of Komatsu Limited - one of the leading manufacturers of the world for earthmoving and construction equipment. Komatsu machines are used for mining, land cultivation, expansion of road networks, building dams, rehabilitation and construction of canals for irrigation systems, quarrying for cement plants, development of oil fields, etc. A number of construction and farming projects like land development to grow more food were funded under Japanese grants and credits. Keeping in view the reliability and range of earth moving machinery offered by Komatsu, most of the foreign and local contractors rely on them for major construction work. Ventures like Karakoram Highway, all national motorways and reservoirs like Khanpur, Simly, Hub and Mirani Dams are some prestigious examples of projects of national importance where Komatsu equipment was used. Currently, Komatsu equipment is being used for Mangla Dam raising, construction of Kathchi Canal, Rehabilitation of Taunsa Barrage, and Satpara Dam construction in Skardu.

P&M also facilitated the Ministry of Communications to establish a Construction Machinery Training Institute (CMTI) in Islamabad. The institute is imparting operational and maintenance training to local and foreign students, as well as to public and private sector organizations.

Environment and Sanitation
Establishment of the Environment Protection Agency (EPA) and framing of EPA rules opened up new horizons of business activity in Pakistan. Businesses are now increasingly aware of their responsibilities to prevent all kinds of pollution, including noise, air, industrial effluents etc. Drawing on almost fifty years of experience in this field, we are able to provide complete solutions for all kinds of water treatment needs, like supply and installation of water treatment/purification and pumping plants and treatment of sewerage/industrial wastewater. Our principals offer state-of-the-art technology in all the related fields. We also supply pollution-monitoring equipment to civic agencies and aim to enhance our product range by offering more user friendly and easily maintainable equipment to our customers.

P&M Division supplied Komatsu Skid Loaders for Solid Waste Management for 18 Towns of City District Government Karachi (CDGK) and recently provided 30 Marathon Mechanical Sweepers to CDGK and 2 to Clifton Cantonment Board to clean the city and the cantonment roads. We are the pioneers in supplying the mechanical sweepers to a number of city district governments, industrial complexes and housing projects for mechanized road cleaning which includes City District Governments Karachi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Hafizabad and Sialkot; and housing projects like DHA Karachi and Bahria Rawalpindi. P&M has also supplied incinerators to burn hazardous bio-medical waste.

P&M is actively involved in pursuing Japanese grant-assisted projects. Currently P&M is involved in the Retrieval of Sewerage and Drainage System Project at Lahore, Enhancement of the Islamabad Children's Hospital, Rehabilitation of Taunsa Barrage, Enhancement of the Allama Iqbal Open University, and Upgradation of the Construction Machinery Training Institute. Over the last few years, P&M has contributed towards a number of environment related projects such as Water Treatment/Purification and Pumping Plant at Karachi; Water Supply Rawalpindi, Solid Waste Management - Hyderabad, Karachi and Lahore; Weather Forecasting Equipment for Pakistan Meteorological Department Karachi and has supplied training equipment to Pakistan Marine Academy Karachi.

P&M is actively working on projects related to education to upgrade existing technical education standards and to enhance laboratory facilities. P&M is also selling a number of products to the local industries that include spare parts, raw materials and consumables for steel, cement, petrochemical; and heavy engineering industries.

Power Generation and Transmission
P&M offers both technology and products that improve the reliability of power systems/networks. Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) and Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) are using our products for the last 25 years and are satisfied with the equipment as well as backup support provided by JBL. Some of the products are: grid stations, Extra High Voltage (EHV) transformers, conductors, insulators and other hardware. These products are supplied under various international funding (loans/grants) and local funds. We are gearing up to participate in WAPDA Vision 2025 projects.

Telecommunications
P&M is one of the major suppliers telecommunication and fiber optic cables and other digital communication gadgetry to Pakistan Telecommuniation Company Limited (PTCL). We were instrumental in helping PTCL upgrade their transmission facilities and services.

Oil and Gas
As the country is making all out efforts to achieve self-reliance in oil and gas production, P&M is diligently supporting the national cause by providing the required expertise and products to make Pakistan self-sufficient in this sector. Our customers’ list includes Pakistan State Oil, Pakistan Petroleum Ltd., Oil and Gas Development Corporation Ltd., Sui Southern Gas Company Ltd. And Sui Northern Gas Company Ltd.

Regional Activities:
P&M has also taken an active role in the rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts in Afghanistan. With an established setup in Kabul, we have successfully been awarded contracts: for supply of medical equipment to over 100 clinics, construction machinery, vehicles and rehabilitation of the public bus network, etc. JBL has also formed the Meso-Jaffer JV with Mesopotamia Group of USA in 2005 to provide the maintenance and training services of medical equipment at the Afghan National Army hospitals and clinics throughout Afghanistan. We aim to further strengthen our presence in our neighboring country and play an active part in its path to recovery.

Community Service Activities:
In the aftermath of the tragic earthquake on October 8th, 2005 the P&M with the support of its International Principals has actively been involved in the rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts of the earthquake affected areas. Donation of construction machinery, and funds through the Red Cross as well as other International agencies were made by various Partners and JBL would like to extend its utmost gratitude to those who have extended their helping hand to the people of Pakistan affected by this tragic event.
